When can I complete my application?

We are now accepting applications. We suggest to apply well before start date to avoid the wait list and we will try our best to accommodate. You can apply HERE.

How do I know if my application has been received?

Once we receive your completed application, an email confirmation will be sent to the listed primary email address.

How can I attend the school tour?

If you would like to attend a school tour, please give the school a call to schedule. We understand families have a busy schedule, so if you can’t attend a scheduled date, we are more than happy to work out another alternative date.

What is the acceptance process for applications?

We accept applications all year round.  Because of a high demand for early childhood education, it’s possible that we could have a waiting list. We encourage families to register their child well before their preferred start date. We will try our best to accommodate families.

What should we bring for our child?

The following is a list of personal items your child should have at school at all times. In addition to these items, your child’s teacher may give you a list of items specific to their classroom’s needs.

1.  A crib-sized sheet, and a blanket for naptime (parents are responsible for laundering their child’s sheet or blanket weekly)

2.  An extra change of clothes: Including pants, a T-shirt, a sweater, socks and underwear.

3.  A hat or baseball cap and sunscreen for those sunny summer days! Please leave these at the school at all times during the summer.

4.  Rain gear. Please bring and leave rain gear and boots at school to go outside in wet weather.

5.  A picture of your family.

6.  An art smock for painting.

7.  Diapers (if needed): Please bring diapers, baby wipes, and other products you may use when changing your child (such as ointment).

8.  Pull-Ups. If your child is in the process of toilet training or in the final stages, please bring in Pull-Ups for your child.

Children have their own cubbies at school where you can store these articles. Please label each article clearly and we also ask that you keep in mind that the cubby space is limited. Do not bring things that are very dear to you or your child, for they may get lost or damaged. Any toys or belongings will be placed in the cubbies until the end of the day.

How should I send a snack or lunch with my child?

Please pack your child’s lunch in a clearly labeled microwavable container(s).  Any water bottles should be clearly labeled as well.  NOTE: we are a peanut/nut free zone.

Can we arrange for a gradual entry for our child?

We recommend a gradual entry for every child. It helps to make the transition between being at home and being with us much smoother for the child.

During your parent-teacher interview, the Teacher will set up a gradual entry plan that suits both your child and your needs as the parent.

How do parents meet with Teachers?

You can meet with your child’s Teacher any time you need to by making an appointment. There are also two scheduled days within the academic school year for Parent-Teacher interviews

Is the school open all year round?

Yes, Write Choice Early Learning Centre is open all year round.

Write Choice Early Learning Centre’s curriculum follows a ten-month period from September to June. In the summer months (July and August), we offer a Summer Program, filled with exciting and creative activities based around one theme for each of the four two-week sessions.

Our school structure is modelled after the elementary school structure. There are some closures throughout the year, such as Spring Break, Winter Break, or our Teacher Professional days (two per year).

Please note, Write Choice Early Learning Centre observes all regular statutory holidays.

Will our child get a chance to rest during the day?

Yes. We have scheduled time for all children to rest during the afternoon. The session begins with soothing music and some mild relaxation exercises, and ends with restful nap. Write Choice Early Learning Centre provides a sleeping mat and you are asked to provide a bed sheet and a blanket for your child. Children who do not need to nap are encouraged to join the relaxation session and rest for 20 minutes, and then can enjoy some quiet table-top activities, or read books.

What happens if our child needs to take medication?

Write Choice Early Learning Centre is not authorized to administer non-prescription medication to your child (i.e. Tylenol). If your child takes prescribed medication, temporarily or permanently, you will need to fill out a “request for administration of medicine” form for each course of medication to be administered to your child. We will be happy to provide you with these forms upon request. We suggest that you advise your pharmacist to divide the prescription into two containers, one to be held at school and one at home. This will ensure a regular course of treatment for your child. The Teacher will usually be responsible for administering that medication, as often as needed. We will make sure that the medication is taken on schedule and exactly as requested. We can also follow your specific written instructions in case of an emergency, until the physician arrives.

Rest assured that we would not dispense any medication to a child, if there were no specific request in the child’s medical file.

With respect to allergies, we ask that you provide us with a complete list of allergies that your child suffers from, so that we can keep your child as healthy as possible. It is also essential for us to have that information in order to ensure that your child’s diet does not contain any known allergens.

What should we know about the Application Fee?

When you apply, an Application Fee of $50 must be submitted with your Application; for each additional sibling of an enrolled student, the Application Fee is waived. The Application Fee does not guarantee your admission to Write Choice Early Learning Centre.

If the school is not able to offer the applicant admission after one year of the commencement date requested, 50% of the Application Fee may be refunded upon withdrawal from our waiting lists. If the Applicant remains on the waiting list until they are no longer of age to attend the program, the Application Fee will be refunded upon withdrawal.

Do you offer a sibling discount?

Yes! When two or more siblings are attending at the same time, the sibling(s) will receive a 10% discount tuition fee.

Can I apply for subsidy?

Yes, the BC government may subsidize childcare if the family meets certain income requirements. You can go online to see if you are eligible at: http://www.mcf.gov.bc.ca/childcare/subsidy/index.htm?WT.svl=Body

It is the parent’s responsibility to fill out the application form and return it to the subsidy worker at least two (2) weeks prior to the child’s start date in order to receive funding on time.  The monetary difference remaining between subsidy and centre’s tuition needs to be paid by the family using post-dated cheques following the centre’s guideline.  Parents are responsible for subsidy renewals.
